Moving average

Also known as: MA, SMA, EMA

A moving average smooths price by continuously averaging it over a chosen number of bars, revealing trend direction.

A Simple Moving Average (SMA) weights all bars equally; an Exponential Moving Average (EMA) weights recent bars more, reacting faster. Crossovers between fast and slow averages are classic trend signals, such as the 50/200 'golden cross'.
