Open interest

Also known as: OI

Open interest is the total number of outstanding derivative contracts (futures or options) that have not been settled.

Rising open interest with rising price suggests new money backing a move; falling open interest suggests positions closing. Combined with funding and price, it helps read whether a trend is being fuelled or unwound.
